Great space inside for the current use, that of an art museum. I thought the current exhibition was grim, but that’s certainly not a reason not to go, as they’re changed out every few months, I believe. Very little on the historical past re WWII here. But very good vantage points of the sub pens from all over this section of town, and you can basically walk around three sides. I think it’s been nicely incorporated into modern day usage with the marina out front.

Took us ages to find the entrance and ended up walking around the whole outside of the building trying to find it really could do with some decent signs. Walked into the entrance around one of the submarine pens this was what I actually wanted to see it is a very impressive structure. Once inside and paid to enter the back half was an art gallery of weird stuff in loads of rooms.(not really my cup of tea) I really wanted to see the submarine base but it was closed to the public. The base itself is an impressive structure but surely they should offer guided tours of the actual submarine base and it's previous operation etc.

Closed now but beautiful concrete structure from the outside, great for taking photos on film for example.

You don't have to get close, to see this reminder of the war. Concrete submarine pens won't impress everyone.

The ultimate art gallery. Quite an exotic venue. Large dark rooms, architectural minimalism, no outside vibes / disturbances - Total focus on the exposed artworks. Excellent object lighting. Top sound for video installation.

Note that this is not a museum of the Submarine base... It is an exhibition centre for art. There is no historic information on the base and you only get to walk through the first pen and that is all (July 2018). However we saw an exhibition on urban art which was absolutely fantastic. Note the entrance is on the opposite side of the base to the "cité du vin" so is a good 25 minute walk from there.

I was expecting a museum instead it was an art gallery. However the modern art was pleasant. Inside there are many places to take pictures for your social media accounts.
