This museum has lots of various German and French uniforms, flags, armour, a cannon, a mitrailleuse (early French type gatling gun) lots of maps and huge military themed paintings of troops and generals. The exhibition areas are somewhat dimly lit but the artifacts and such are lighted well with a decent amount of light and descriptions in French, German and english, but the english descriptions are not as informative as the other 2 languages. Still was a great museum in an area where 2 large battles occurred before Metz was besieged by the German forces!

Absolutely fabulous. I remember the old 2 rooms with dusty uniforms .. Not anymore. EXCELLENT parking (and road signage well ahead). Large space, modern and respectful architecture. Knowledgeable and kind docents, ALL the displays and videos in Fr - De - Eng. Excellent souvenir mini store. I thought I knew a lot about 1870, and I still learned a lot. Some great historical and educational work toward a seamless story within the larger context (1800-1950). Well done.

A pearl on the route to the south. If you ever pass Metz, go in the direction of Verdun and just 15 minutes away you'll find a new and interesting museum with a whole lot of information about the war of 1870-1871. A must!
