A good museum, though it doesn't have necessarily to many paintings from famous painters
The museum of fine arts of Lyon is a tour-de-force marvel and a fantabulous experience. To begin the journey, it's location is impressive near Place des Terreaux and is inside a former Benedictine convent with stunning central courtyard surrounded by beautiful cloisters, a central garden with spectacular bronze and marble statues inside the garden and along the cloisters' corridors. It costs 8 to enter (absolutely worth it) and extra for personal electronic guide in several languages. It's one of the biggest art museums in France and exhibitions range from important classic and modern arts to Egyptian antiquities to religious art and sculptures. There's public lavatory and restaurant in the museum. I spent nearly two hours exploring this stunning art museum due to time constraints. But, you're allowed to exit and re-enter using the same ticket. If you're in for a really great experience, Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon is a must destination and really take your time to explore the entire premise and not just the inside.
A very interesting place. You can spend hours wandering the rooms, and if I recall, it used to be a convent so you have the history of the building too, not just its contents. Worth a visit, to say the least.
Beautiful building and galleries. Right when you enter there isva lovely garden/park where you can seat on the benches and relax. The entrance was 4 euro, but we get in with a student pass. On the basement there is a sculpture exhibition. Absolutely impressed, but the quality and scale of those sculpture. After that the main galleries span on 2 levels in chronological order. It starts with the Egyptian exhibition and it goes all the way to Impresionists like Monet and Degas. There is also a small room with a quite impressive coin collection. It takes about 2 hours to go briefly through all the museum and 3-4 hours if you listen the audio tours as well. The side notes are all in French.
It has more collections and paintings. It would be great for international student to learn and research in Lyon. Don't miss the Heritage Day for free entry.
This museum was so good that I went there twice (in 3 days). It has some fantastic paintings that you won't see anywhere else. Also notable is its stellar Egyptian collection.
A great place to visit, although very frenchy-little explanations, only when starting the Italian paintings and not all of them. Anyhow from antic Egypt to impressionist a lot worth seeing. We discovered with my wife a great painter, Fleury Richard, who has several paintings there. A wonderful sense of light. Also a series of funny sculpted portraits in a small cabinet.
