Though impressively stupendous from the outside, I wasn't overly impressed with the interior especially the minimal details and exhibitions available. Very friendly staffs here, welcoming and really give you enough information to explore this castle. There are rooms on the basement level and about three huge rooms upstairs. Be prepared to climb the ancient winding staircase but really worth it especially when you reach the roof. The rooftop gives you a stunning unimpeded view of the city. Unfortunately only the largest turret was accessible as the smaller turret was closed, not sure why. But for purely exquisite views of Old Niort and surroundings, it's really worth exploring Donjon de Niort Castle. By the way, there's no lavatory or lift here but really suitable for all ages if you're fit or curious enough to explore this Castle.

Always good to check out a castle from the 12th century to see how they lived.

Interesting castle, with good information. Unfortunately all the notes were only in French and although it had QR Codes to get the English descriptions, not all were working.

A nice visit to spend a couple of hours. The building has been restored and repaired inside and out. Day and warm inside , lovely for a rainy day pastime. Some simple exhibits and some with more explanations, (forewarned, it's all in French) it's a french museum, what do u expect? One slight drawback, there are no toilets. The nearest toilet is in the main street 100m from the Donjon,(underneath and to the east of the indoor market. Don't miss the view from the roof. Spectacular. Free parking for cars across the river and through the trees. Aire de camping car aussi. Not free 10 per night it's often full up though. Ps nice town center to visit . Go for the weekend when they have a vide grenier planned. Fantastic.
