Perfect place to go to learn about mushrooms, and get out of the heat. Set in a series of caves by the Loire close to Saumur, the museum meanders underground showing a multitude of different fungi set in resin blocks before getting to the actual mushroom farm where they cultivate a few different varieties. Being underground, its a constant 12 in there, so even in the height of French summer, take a jumper as it's proper cold, particularly in contrast to the outside. There are a few ammonites and nautilus fossils scattered around the place too.

A place to be when it’s above 30 degree Celsius outside. For the theme (mushrooms) and naturally beautiful location (troglodyte) I find it pity that the contents inside the museum are not as rich as expected nor organized in a way that’s easy to digest. There are a lot of empty spaces inside that were not fully utilized. Just to see the mushrooms and experience the troglodyte it’s fine but don’t expect to be wowed by it.

It was okay! Lots to see but nothing overly impressive. We were only there for 30 mins.

Nice and cool on a hot day. Old stone quarry caves museum of fungi plus galleries of mushrooms being cultivated for sale.

A lot of publicity for little more than a mushroom farm. The large number of mushrooms quoted are mostly in resin, apart from that there are mostly just rows and rows of button mushrooms. No guide or animation to speak of, the children (9 and 11) were fed up before we got halfway around. Given the publicity and signage from the motorway I was expecting much much more. The staff were friendly and fortunately there are three museums on one site and pierre et lumière saved the day. If you are nearby, drop in, but not worth a détour especially with so much more to see in the region.

This museum is really good for people who love mushrooms. The way they depicted everything is perfect and all the literature is translated to english. There is a lot of history in there, methods of mushroom production. I absolutely recommend a visit here.

This place is ok for a bit of a laugh - but it's really exactly what you expect it to be - a series of caves with exibits about mushrooms in. How interesting can mushrooms be? It turns out, not very much. But hey if you're in the area, apparently this place is one of the top tourist attractions in the town. Leave-voting burks have screwed our exchange rate so at the moment it's about 30 for a family of 4 to get into this place, but how else are you going to entertain the children on holiday?
