Had a very mixed experience here. We stayed two nights and the grounds and château were lovely. They have an indoor pool (a little too warm in summer), there are sun beds on the lawns and it's about a 15 minute walk into town if you feel like getting out. The château is decorated in period style but has some nice paintings by local artist Hosotte. The staff were very friendly and professional. On the negative side, the shower in our room would not stay up, so we were forced to have baths. There was no fitness room (one treadmill doesn't qualify), which is disappointing in a hotel claiming 5 stars and with plenty of space. The breakfast was very expensive for not very much. A continental breakfast in the room was 26 euros per person for a hot drink, an orange juice, a boiled egg and a shared basket of pastries and bread. On day 2 the bread was toasted. The restaurant experience was very mixed. The menu gourmand was good and not terrible value at 69 euros per person. Ordering from the carte was awful. The steak was a thinly sliced fillet, with a slice of foie gras on top, a heavy jus and truffle mash. Extremely heavy and not a green or orange vegetable in sight. Overall, expensive and disappointing.

Very nice Chateau located just outside of Ponchaubert Village, Avallon. There are 17 rooms here, each with a good sized room, changing room and a large bathroom. The restaurant located here is cosy, with attentive service. The food is good but not excellent. The front office personnel is helpful and speak good English. The hotel grounds here is large with good outdoor seating area, covered car parks and an auto gate for security. All in a wonderful experience! Would have rated 5 stars if price was slightly lower !

The hotel is very impressive. The rooms are what you expect from a hotel of this class, however because of the age of the building you might be annoyed from noise since insulation is not good. The staff is professional but they can not make you feel that warmth of some exceptional places. A big disadvantage is the poor breakfast. In general nice ambiance, average satisfaction.
We did not stay at the hotel but went to the restaurant for lunch. It was horrible. 1. 321 Euro for 4 people for only slightly better than average food 2. Very rude older waiter. The two younger waiters were great 3. Flies were everywhere. In our food. In our drinks. My Kir was delivered with two flies in it 4. After spending 321 euro, my friend asked for a glass of water. The older waiter wanted to charge him for a bottle of water. My friend cancelled his order of a glass of water!! A great setting with beautiful surroundings but that's the only redeeming feature. Avoid this place. You can get the same quality food elsewhere for a fraction of the price and with friendlier service.
Truly fairytale like, kindest staff and the food was out of this world!
I have stayed here three times and have had wonderful time as the hotel and staff are just perfect in every way. Locking forward to my return with the British Ferrari gentlemen. All our affection David Carter
Lovely venue but money grabbing big time. Won't be back any time soon. Crazy wine prices. Food expensive and not so special.
