Good for kids
Wow, what a beaut! This clock has been incredibly well preserved and the guided tours are top-notch. The tours start 10 minutes before the hour so you can see the big hooplah that occurs when the clock strikes the hours. The docent is thoroughly knowledgeable of the clock's history and inner-workings. As it is one of the four major astronomical clocks in France, it would be a mistake to skip out on a visit here- so worth the couple euros!.

An absolute marvel of clockwork. One must go through the cathedral main doors and through and up a passage way to a room where the clockwork is found. Or you can go up the stairs on the outside and on the right side of the cathedral. Although there's a page of explanation in English the discussion is entirely in French.
Sadly when we arrived the astronomical clock was closed and apparently undergoing extensive renovation. The rush hour traffic only made the experience more frustrating. We spent over an hour and a half getting in and out of the city. I must research these attractions more thoroughly to avoid such an unpleasant experience

Sans grand étonnement : été 2020 ; horloge fermée sans aucune explication au delà du COVID-19. Et sans date de réouverture. Aucun aménagement, aucune explication. Était-ce vraiment le meilleur effort d’un des pays les plus touristiques au monde ? J’en doute.
Une des plus accessible des 4 horloges astronomiques dans une cathédrale française. Situé dans la cathédrale Saint Jean. N'oubliez pas de passez sous la magnifique Porte Noire.
Nous nous sommes déplacés exprès à Besançon pour visiter cet édifice tant recommandé dans les guides. Qu'elle fut notre surprise de trouver porte de bois. Hormis une grande déception, de la colère car marquée comme ouverte sur internet !!! En plein mois d'août c'est quand même extraordinaire !!!
