Great place to visit. Audio-guided tour available. The placed is steeped in history, which is explained using the story of a soldier This story is presented as a succession of film-fragments during the 'underground tour' that guides you through the catacombs of the citadel (as it's fairly dark and the fragments contain re-enacted war scenes, it's not recommended for young children). Be sure not to miss the underground tour!

Worth to get into, the building is amazing. However, besides the (well crafted) movie about the 1870-1871 siege, there is little information about the building itself, its strategic importance and its history over time. Apparently audio guides are free but were not offered at the entrance. Feeling quite disappointed to have been taken from one screen to the next inside the underground galleries, where there is very little explanation about their role or what happened in them. Read about this citadel before getting in.
Awesome in the sense that it inspires awe. This huge citadel was clearly an important site in history. It's closed from October through May do unfortunately I didn't get the chance to go inside, but even from the exterior it was impressive and a very nice walk with great views of the surrounding city.
This was a great place to spend a hot day! Make sure to bring a jacket and you go downstairs through the fort and watch a great video series that takes you through the fort
Nice place, great views of Bitche! Fun easy trip to do with family. Bitche is a nice town and the citadel is a lovely walk!
Great views of Bitche from all around the citadel. Closed for winter and would benefit from information boards around the outside. Superb place for a short stroll and a picnic. Motorhome parking with all facilities is excellent although electric hook up point only at one end. 2 Euro for 10 minutes of water and 50 minutes of electricity. Very clean and quiet at night. We felt welcome and found many locals very friendly.
Very charming and with a very interesting story! The tour is guided by headphones, so you can walk and hear explanations about where you are. They also have bathrooms, store and Cafe. Loved the visit!
Fantastic citadel and audio tour that focuses on the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871. The audio is available in English, but all the signs are limited to French and German. The numerous photographs throughout do a great job of showing the citadel as it was.
