Great architecture and so much history. The tomb of William the Conquerer is there

The abbaye has a very peaceful atmosphere, especially the large central cloistered area. After visiting you walk around to the church to visit the grave of William the Conqueror. Very interesting to think about how this one man changed the course of history.

Beautiful large abbey and church in Caen. My family and I visited it on our way to Juno beach. It was a great stop to see the large building, and also to see the role that it played in house people in WW2 after all the bombardment of the city.

A short walk from Chateau Caen to 11th century abbey and St Etienne church which house the tomb of William the Conqueror. Abbey with lovely cloister and garden. Amazing architecture of church with 2 tall ornate towers and round domed tower which dominate the skyline. 4, definitely worth a visit

The Abbey of Men of the Benedictine order, was founded by Guilherme O Conquistador in 1063, and consecrated in 1077. This magnificent piece of engineering can be considered the precursor of the Gothic style. An interesting fact during the Allied landing on the beaches of Normandy, was the red cross painted in blood on a sheet, which was placed on the roof.
