. The Plage Nord at Saint-Cyprien-Plage goes from the end of the built-up area at the northern end of the resort right up to the canal that allows water in and out of the Etang de Canet-Saint-Nazaire. So it's about 2 km or so long. Although so close to the town, it is a wild beach - no bars, no pedaloes, no nothing. In fact you are also warned that there are no lifeguards and bathing is thus dangerous. Everyone ignores this, of course! All along the main road there are, on the sea side, marked parking bays. Between the road and the beach is an area of protected dunes, but luckily they are not high, so there is no steep clims. But this does mean that there is not free access across this protected area, so you have to keep an eye open to spot the paths leading to the beaches. You can recognise them by the fact that they have fencing alongside. The prime parking is, obviously, near these paths. The beach itself is good; very good, the sand is fairly pale and fairly fine, with no nasty sharp stones at the water's edge. It is not too deep, so you don't have to trudge miles with your sunshade and suncream. You may need a windbreak when the Tramontane wind is blowing. It is a textile beach and you are not expected to strip everything off. And, of course, in the distance you see the foothills of the Pyrenees - a glorious backdrop to this lovely wild beach. .
