The Australian Memorial Park commemorates the men of the 5th Australian Division who were killed during the Battle of Fromelles in July 1916. The centrepiece of the park is the impressive Cobber memorial which shows an Australian soldier rescuing a wounded comrade. At the rear of the par are the remnants of a shattered German pillbox. The park was opened in 1998 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the battle. Nearby is the VC Corner cemetery and the Le Trou Aid Post cemetery.

A very special place for those of us interested in Australia's part in WW1. Very serene and quite moving. Very beautiful when 'sown' with thousands of hand made poppies in 2016
Very emotional experience. The memorial is beautifully maintained and reflects on the horror and heroism of war
I suggest you read the history behind this sad place of sacrificial lambs of all the allied forces. In brief a few of things I have been told this was just a diversionary operation to try to distract main attacks at Somme, the poor Diggers and English were just machine gun fodder from German salient. One English officer was court martialed for refusing to send his men to the slaughter. Memorial Park was designed to commemorate the Australians who fought and died during the attack at the Battle of Fromelles on 19 to 20 July 1916.
MATE, a touching statue of a digger helping his cobber back to safety . says so much about Australia. We were here the 24/4 and the Town folk of Fromelles were getting ready to do an Anzac Day service. These 2 gentleman where out early getting things ready.
Beautiful and confronting.
