2 months since we moved here I would like to share one (of few) incidents that everyone coming from North America should be aware of, since school policies differ very much. School expectation is: Your child gets slapped very hard across it's face by another peer - your child has to stay calm, not to show emotions, locate nearest adult, in a very calm way explain what troubles him/her and then hope for them to believe them and help hem with the situation. Your child is ABSOLUTELY not allowed to show anger or being upset because that will escalate into a fight that in turn will lead to many adults being involved in meetings, interviews, probably paperwork, more meetings... and other kids being emotionally and physically hurt due to the fact that your child reacted in anger being slapped for no reason - not acceptable. Also, don't expect to be notified right away, if you are lucky, your child will tell you what happened, otherwise you have to wait a day (with other injuries that are not life threatening you don't get notified because nurse cannot handle 200 kids and as many phone calls every day - I was told). We don't come from a culture where slapping across face is a natural occurrence, I would have reacted the same way because such physical abuse is unheard of. Victim and instigator lost \fun time\ during lunch as a consequence, punishment equally divided. Our child for defending himself would have been suspended if he were in middle school. I was not told if the instigator would have. Tell your kids to humbly take all the abuse at ISP, they will only benefit from it.
