This is the famous port where the Vendée Globe takes place. Coming here means we’d be sure to get a sight of some of these race boats as we’ve seen often on TV in France. During this time, outside of the race Vendée Globe period, it is much more calm and chill. It is an interesting mix of old and new buildings all along the coast. Very industrialized area while keeping a few historical building. The small local sailboats were a beautiful sight. We came here with friend on our boat from Port Bourgenay just across. There are lots of restaurants along the port. The director of of port at the Capitainerie is very friendly and nice. We’d go back again just for his good sense of humor and kindness. Being at such a famous port means hey are used to dealing frequently with people, which enables them to be more open minded and used to having lots of visitors. Will definitely try to come back again.

Lovely place, must visit if you're in the region. Very scenic, old and new parts of the town in the same place.

Great holiday location. Very French. Plenty to do. Really big beach with clean sand and great sea water if a little chilly. The beach is lined with marvellous restaurants. Predominantly pedestrianised the length of the beach area, so quite safe but you'll still need to keep an eye on the odd car and the many cycles. Speaking of which, if you go there then BRING YOUR BICYCLES. You won't need to drive. If you don't have your own then don't fear, there's plent of places to rent at reasonable prices. It's perfect for cycling from the very young to the very old. The main town centre is only a stones throw away from the beach with many little streets to navigate and loads of shopping, markets and more eateries to choose from if that's what you also like. Look out for local free concerts and performances that may be on during your stay.

One of the best marinas we have berthed in. Great staff who speak English when your French runs out. This is a fab city, great resort with much to do or go seek out the quiet and peace of the beaches on the north side. Great water bus service gets you anywhere for one euro! The home of the Vendee Globe and you can see why. The place to sort any boat problems as this is the home to a massive yacht industry. The 3 km promobade is second only to Nice and the indoor market is one of the best in France. Do both! As you might have guessed we liked this place a lot!
