Very majestic statute fountain! Also a nice square to hang around!
like
Fountaine Bartholdi! It is the most magnificent fountain I have ever seen! And very interesting history! The fountain was meant to be for Bordeaux in 1857 but somehow it was sold to Lyon and it’s been there since 1892. The female symbolizes France and and she’s on a chariot controlling the four rivers of France. It is a masterpiece by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi who also designed the Statue of Liberty.
It is quite comfortable to have a cup of coffee in some of the options one can find in this site while beholding the square, the buildings and the fountain; perfect to spend time with friends or family and enjoy a casual chat surrounded by such a beautiful architecture. Recommendable undoubtedly.
The renovation is complete! It took nearly 3 years for this work to finish...I recall the stairs being under renovation when I was in Lyon in 2017. Now after returning in December 2019, it is complete and I must say it is a work of art; the horses breath smoke out of their nostrils.
Very nice place at Place des Terreaux. This fountain is eternal Bartholdi’s masterpiece.
Now it’s not a good time to visit - it undergoes major renovation; otherwise it probably looks amazing; don’t miss the city hall, also;
Beautiful fountain. A must see in Lyon.
Nice place and beautifull fountain
