Horrible experience. One would think that a Consulate in France's 3rd largest city would provide some semblance of actual service to Canadians, but you'd be wrong! I am an expat living in Southern France and had a fellow Canadian come and visit. Unfortunately, her passport was stolen. After trying for 30 minutes to get a live person on the phone, we were finally transferred to someone in Ottawa who assured us that the Consular office would be able to provide an emergency passport. Now, take note that their working hours are from 9h30-12h... 2&1/2hrs per day! So we hopped in the car and took the 3 hour drive to Lyon with the thought that things would go smoother from there. We arrived at the office which is located on the 8th floor of an office building. However, the elevator only goes to the 5th floor. Luckily for us, we suffer no mobility issues so could climb the last 3 flights of stairs, but what happens when someone who is in a wheelchair or otherwise restricted with mobility is in need of assistance??? So once arriving at the office, we were told that in fact they do not process emergency passports and that a trip to the Embassy in Paris was necessary. The story goes on from there (tried to ring the Embassy but again our call was routed to Ottawa) and we are still waiting to hear back. I pity the Canadian who has to deal with the diplomatic staff in France, they are completely and utterly useless.

Personnel extrêmement serviable et bienveillant. Merci! Attention, adresse Google obsolete.
