Quite a thorough walk through of the history of this incredible city which helps decipher and understand why Marseille is so special. They don’t have audio guides because of COVID but they do have a journal which guides you through the museum and gives a lot of additional information, ask for it at the ticket desk. It’s only 1 and I wouldn’t have appreciable the museum as much without it. Free entry during the summer of 2020. It was quite empty so I had the luxury of being alone most of the time.

Marseille History Museum is located near the old port and the museum is focus on the fascinating history of the Marseilles region from the BC to the contemporary. The exhibitions are very well organized chronologically with a wide range of artifacts, including pieces of several ancient wooden boats that have been recovered in the area. The museum places used to be the dock and the port spot in the Roman times. The City of Marseille did a great job to discover and dig out all the ancient stuff, there are so many. It is amazing tour in the exhibitions. Great way to learn the history in Marseille. Strongly recommended.

Wonderful museum! I didn't find the entrance at first and it's a bit unusual for me that it's integrated into the mall. Nevertheless a great experience. I really liked how they preserved the old port which one can see from nearly every place inside the museum. The audio guide is good as well, but I think all the information provided in the museum is a lot. So plan in a bit of time for a visit!

Okay I heard positive comments on this. I went and it's 6.00 euro with free audio in English. It's not user friendly. Also it would be a higher rating if there were internation language signage present. It would be better if employees were bilingual. A lot of neat exhabits, but poor descriptions and guide does not give great details. Recommend for a rainy day.

I visited the Marseille History museum with my wife on our last day in the city. It was a good opportunity to hear a little more about the history of the city dating back 26 centuries. It was helpful to have the audio guides available in Italian and English to provide you guides during different parts of the museum. It was interesting to see how the discovery of the old Roman port was made during the building of the central shopping center. There were several boats unearthed during this time that are on display in the museum.

This Museum is great! There are so many vestiges of the early period of Marseille history. You can see pottery, and tombs from it's earliest days. I was fascinated by the earliest burial practices and especially the sarcophagi there. There are also materials for more modern periods as well as stories about important Kings and generals (Napoleon) who also lived here.

Huge Museum with a great and collectiom from ancient times until now. The objects are presented in a fine way and accompanied by historical maps and explanations. Most is also in English, some even in Italian and German. And in the garden there are the ruins of the old Greek and Roman port, gate,....
