This museum is the most amazing place to visit in Normandy if you want to know more about the d-day landings from the glider pilot regiment to the rest of the historic day that started the liberation of Europe.. there is both a French and English version short film in the centre of the museum that explains the operation on D-Day itself and also a life size horse glider in the grounds, the original pegasus Bridge is also situated in the grounds of the museum, I have been visiting this place since I was very young and it amazes me each and every year.

The Memorial Pegasus museum is dedicated to the men of 6th British Airborne Division, and focuses on the capture of the bridges at Ranvile and the various missions for the division on June 6th 1944. The museum was opened in 2000 but before that it was originally located on the other side of the channel and was called the Airborne forces museum. The main building and 4 smaller outside buildings display several Hundreds of historical objects and photos, main attractions of the museum are several vehicles, the original Pegasus bridge which was demolished in 1994 and luckily survived in a field for years before being obtained by the museum.
Great indoor and outdoor museum. Lots of history object inside along with photos and stories. Outside one can see the bridge and the glider plane. It's a must stop in Normandy
Devils advocate here, what about memorialising the German troops stationed here and taken by surprise by a larger force? Great museum though, and plenty to read. Operation Overlord was a hard push by a very large force. Lots of heroism and daring. Some disasters, but wow, we'll likely never see such a deployment again.
What an amazing place. So peaceful. Would highly recommend visiting. The views of the beach are also great with very good parking
A very interesting visit to a museum that's well worth going to. A previous poster has said about walking on the original bridge, if the original bridge is behind the museum then you cant (which I believe is the case), unless its the 1 across the Caen Canal.
This was an excellent example of a modern museum. I felt it covered the historical events very well but made it so much more 'real' by adding so many human stories. The actions of that night being mainly carried out by men in their very early 20's and some much younger. The life size model of the glider makes one shudder at the thought of being in it. This is just one of many interesting exhibits. The film show is also most interesting making one realise just how little one knows of the events of that one night. Very well worth a visit.
Excellent displays. The real bridge was moved here for historical reasons. Replica full size Horsa glider outside along with Bailey Bridge. Very nice museum, movie, artifacts, gift shop. Within walking distance of river and other shops and restaurants.
