The Amphitheater is an ancient Roman temple in Nîmes, southern France; it is one of the best preserved Roman architecture. amphitheater of Nîmes, dating from the 1st century AD, is one of the best preserved in the Roman world. Must visit place if you travel to Nimes The amphitheater offers its prestigious setting for many events. It hosts bullfights, concerts and sporting events. The Arenas host a large number of cultural and festive shows all summer long, attracting a local and international audience. Grandiose and majestic, they constitute an exceptional outdoor stage and have thus marked internationally renowned stars, singers, dancers, musicians, and the best bullfighters.

It is the best preserved of the existing Roman amphitheaters. Built around 70 B.C. (shortly after the Roman Colosseum) during the Empire of Augustus. It is currently used as a bullring (the most important in France) in which bullfights are held since 1863. It also hosts musical concerts with artists such as Rammstein, Metallica, Lenny Kravitz, Jamiroquai, Sting, Norah Jones, Simple Minds and others. In the past it was home to the Viscounts of Nimes who built their palace-fortress inside the amphitheater. Later a small village (700 people approx.) developed inside the palace, which also had two chapels. When you visit you will need an hour or so. If you are passionate about the Romans (like me) then it will be 2 hours or even more.

Amazing place in the city of Nimes. This is the place where currently there are presentations of singers, but in fact is a relict of the Roman times, which is best conserved for today. Near you can find also other interesing cities by train like Avignon and Montpellier, all in the southern France.

The arena is fantastic, its one of the best pieces of Roman works that have past the test of time, the waiting line is around 20 minutes, and inside there is enough to see, you can go inside the arena and on top of it. It is the highlight of the city of Nîmes.
