I graduated from Spéos’ 32 weeks program in 2012. And even though I had had extensive experience in portrait photography before, it was Spéos that became the turning point in my career. The school not only taught me innumerable new skillsets but also — and more importantly — gave a dramatically deeper understanding of photography, the foundation to build on, experiment, and grow further, shaping my professional and artistic identity. Another reason to recommend Spéos is the community around it. Apart from some really strong teachers and the students — both aspiring photographers and professionals from all over the world — the school gathers on its grounds market experts, famous artists, and potential employers for the graduates. It’s a great platform for exchanging ideas, sharing inspiration and experience. 2012 was the year when I left my day job to become a professional portrait photographer. I have been working as such ever since, on assignments for magazines, corporate clients, advertising agencies, movie production companies, and theatres in Europe, Russia, the Caucasus Region, both Americas, Africa, and Asia. I cannot stress enough how important the role of Spéos was in this transition. By far — the best investment I made in developing my photographic career.

After a decade working in the event management industry, I realized it was time to follow my dream of becoming a photographer. I set about looking for a comprehensive, intensive course to support my move into the market of professional photography. The Spéos program was exactly what I was looking for and it delivered in spades. The 32-week course in Paris gave me a fantastic foundation, however, it was the Expert Modules which truly took me to a whole other level. The knowledge and confidence I gained meant that I was able to begin my business as soon as I finished and turn a profit within the first two years of establishing in a country I’d never lived or worked in before. I have since relocated countries five times since my studies in Paris and have successfully created businesses in each new market. I believe this is largely down to the basic principles and artistic growth I experienced at Spéos. I have go on to win awards and have also recently written my first book ‘For the Love of the Photograph’, an educational and inspirational guide.

I came to Speos knowing nothing about photography. I thought this could be a new hobby. Now its officially my favourite job! The teachers are super nice. I loved that we also learned about the history of photography as well. Loved the weekly gallery outings that we did. Plus I made friends from so many different countries in the best city in the world! Now I always have my camera with me everywhere I go.

Speos gave me confidence to jump straight into the photography business after graduating. When i entered the program i though i would focus on being a fashion outdoor photographer, since i had a background in styling and i though mastering studio light is not for me. During the one year program we had such a vast diversity of techniques and covered so many photography genres that i changed my direction into still life photography. Now i work as a still lifer and i have built my own studio. The program covered everything you need to know in the photography world. If you are attentive and take it all in it might be the best investment in your future.

I took a one year intensive Creative Documentary and Photojournalism, Magnum Photos-Spéos program in 2016. I am so glad that I did. During the year at Spéos we studied wide range of topics from artistic expression to image post-processing, printing techniques, photography as business, and much more. The ongoing feedback that I received for my work from experienced and talented Magnum photographers was simply invaluable. The program gave me solid foundation for going into photography as a business, and even more importantly created the friendships and network of contacts that I have been relying on, and will continue to rely on, long after completing my studies. Whether for developing yourself as an artist, or for starting to pursue a professional career in photography, I can wholeheartedly recommend Spéos as a first choice.

In 2003 I wanted to change careers from IT to photography. I needed a concentrated program which would give me the necessary skills and vision. I choose Spéos because the alumni images were superior to those of similar schools. I completed the 32 Week Intensive program and got a job assisting one of the top fashion photographers in the world, directly through contacts provided by the school. After years working as assistant and photographer, I had the good luck to be invited to teach at Spéos, and I haven't regretted it for a minute. Highly recommended for anyone serious about becoming a photographer.

As a former student I highly recommend Spéos. I attended in 2006, I wanted to change my career orientation and was looking for a professional photography school. Spéos had the most to the point and hands-on program, industry oriented with professional teachers and top facilities. I was also seduced by the cosmopolitan atmosphere. I made good friends around the world that I still see today. And right in the center of Paris.

I attended Speos back in the early 90s and it was such an amazing experience. The teachers were inspiring and really pushed us to be the best we could be. It was an incredibly intense experience but in the best possible way. From what I've seen since, the school has only gotten better with age. Highly recommended!
