An intimate contact with the world’s best vineyard - a must visit in life
Amazing chateaux and loving the building that makes the wine, inspired by theatre. Grand interior. Absolutely worth a visit and the museum to see the evolution of the bottle labels is the highlight.
The tour plus wine tasting is truly a unique experience. The tour lasted about two hours and included the grounds, cellars, wine museum and label gallery. While it did feel a bit long, it was worth the visit. The wine is fantastic. The only downside to the tasting is that you only get to try one Chateau Mouton Rothschild wine - the other two wines are from their partner vineyards nearby in Pauillac.
Great tour. Great wine. Great Rothschild family. 2018 - the vintage of the decade for Mouton Rothschild. Chateau Mouton-Rothschilde 2014, Pauillac. Tasting in the Chateau on the 17th of June, 2015. Wine maker: Philippe Dhalluin 81% Cabernet Sauvignon 16% Merlot 3% Cabernet Franc 100% new French oak 13% alc. Black berries and ripe cherries on the nose with a touch of green tobacco. The palate is medium with soft ripe tannin. At the start creme the cassis dominates with damson and mullberry in the background. After a few seconds a battle of flavours, freshness and tannin take place. It's like a chemical reaction going off, that suddenly stops, leaving a smooth finish of blackcurrants and raspberrys and white pepper. A very good year like 2010 but with more tannin. Drink approximately from 2022. Bordeaux Index score: 95 - 97. One of the most charming Chateaux of the region, Mouton-Rothschild not only give you a great lesson about Bordeaux wine making but also about art: the labels designed by the most renowned artists of the 20th and 21st century can be seen with the detailed descriptions of how they were conceived, are all available to be seen, together with the private collection of art of the owners. As for the wines, enough has been said.
Was there on the weekend during covid. Currently, not really much to see/do. Looks all shut down.
The private museum here is incredible, skip the wine museum in town, and get to this one, amazing original art works from the who's who of modern art - all the originals from their label art. Plus artifacts from the history of drinking culture from as far back as 1st century BC. Tasting the Mouton was truly an experience. Far and away the best glass of wine I have ever had. Seeing the wine library from behind the gate that goes back to the 19th century was also very cool. Highly recommend a visit.
