VOICES OF NUCLEAR is an NGO whose volunteer members are employees and sympathizers of the nuclear industry, independent of any economic, institutional, trade union or political ties. It was created in March 2018 by employees who, as regular citizens, wish to: - Assume and express pride in being part of an exceptional scientific and industrial sector - Participate in getting the facts about that sector out to the public - Participate in the positioning of nuclear energy as an essential element of a low-carbon energy mix The IPCC SR15 report of November 2018 on the state of climate change now recommends to decision makers, in all its scenarios, a very significant increase of the global nuclear fleet. Electricity is, and must be, the energy of the future: digitization, performance, cleanliness, independence, mobility, freedom and multiplication of uses. As long as it is available now, massively, without emissions of greenhouse gases, particles and with a reduced environmental footprint and risk to populations. Nuclear power is one of the very few forms of energy that can meet these expectations and the fight against climate change will only be successful with it as part of the world energy mix. If the difficulties of the industry are real, many of them find their source in this disastrous image conveyed to the general public. This image makes it artificially difficult for the nuclear industry to operate normally and continuously improve, when it does not lead to a more direct and political condemnation. In our societies, this misinformation hence becomes denial of democracy and, for the industry, a direct and concrete handicap. As far as France, that draws 75% of its power from nuclear, is concerned : its economy, competitiveness, environmental and public health commitments and future on the world stage depend directly and indirectly on it. The facts that support this statement can and should be debated but to make it possible they should first be known.
