Magnificient monument to commemorate the men and women of the French military who lost their lives during overseas operations since the end of hostilities in Algeria in 1962. The monument takes the form of six pallbearers (without the actual coffin). The life size figures represent different branches of the military. One is female and another a coloured man. Surrounding the six figures are memorial plaques containing the names of the more than six hundred men and women who lost their lives on operational service overseas during this period. The names are grouped by geographical areas: Chad, Afghanistan, Iraq, the Former Yugoslavia, Lebanon, Ivory Coast, Mali...... Sadly there is room to add many more names if required. The monument is located in the Jardin Eugénie Djendi, part of the André Citroën park, in the 15th arrondisement of Paris (nearest Metro stations Lourmel & Balard, line 8 . The garden is named after a heroine of the French resistance deported and then executed at Ravensbruck in 1945.
