This is a hard one. We stayed in the actual chateau. The rooms were large and airy but some needed a bit more 'homeliness' - they appeared a little 'cold'. No rugs on the floor or pictures on the wall. There seemed to be a problem with hot water Nd we didn't have hot water for the 2 nights we stayed! And it was very cold at the time we were there! However the Lodge was totally different! Rooms had more care taken with them and there was hot water! We liked the Lodge. They put on excellent service for a wedding we were attending. We also discovered a lovely riverside walk at the base of the lawn behind the chateau. They cater for all types of functions - really peaceful and quiet in pretty surroundings.

The chateau itself and the surrounding grounds are beautiful and everthing regarding food and the services arranged were great. The problem was the accommodation in the lodge, it was a disaster. Two rooms flooded with sewage on the first night and the plumbing in general was poor. Even after the sceptic tank was emptied the next day it started again two days later! We had two wheelchair users and would strongly advise anyone with mobility issues avoid - the grounds and accommodation are not suitable. The beds are very low and the sink we had was tiny and leaked below. It's a shame because this caused unnecessary stress to an otherwise wonderful occasion that everyone enjoyed.
We have been twice to Chateau du Val and on both occasions have had wonderful time. The accommodation is first class. We have been wined and dined and have wanted for nothing. We have brought our own dogs and the shooting has been first class. The company is a good craic with the emphasis a rough shooting party. We intend to visit again next season and heartily recommend the experience.

2018 is a special year for Chateau du Val, and the Jersey contingent. We have been coming to this delightful shoot for ten years ! (except for two thanks to the weather and the French dockers) and the first weekend around the 1st December 2019 is already booked. From the moment one arrives at the Lodge you are instantly aware that this is special. The fire is lit, the heating is on in every room, the evening meal is ready, wine in the fridge, it goes on and on, and no one else except your party. Each day fantastic breakfast, lunch and dinner; its quite easy to forget why you are actually here. I have shot at some exceedingly good estates in the UK, but Chateau Val is about hunting over dogs, and this year we were treated to the finest that I've ever seen in the field. I was even prepared to leave the gun at the lodge just to watch the dogs working. All too soon its over and again at the mercy of the weather for the return home. Give Chateau Val a try next season. You will not be disappointed.
Returned again to this great location to spend a weekend with good friends, shooting, eating and drinking ! we are always made so welcome by Jas. The weekend is always a great workout, we walk miles through lovely surroundings and occasionally shoot a bird or two ( or miss ). The food is always great and if we are lucky there will be some musical entertainment after lunch. Our group travel each year from Jersey in the Channel Islands and we are looking forward to December 2019. Can't recommend Chateau du Val highly enough, give it a go ! Andy

We had a family group of 27 at the Chateau and Lodge in July 2017. It was a wonderful experience!! We all loved it. Jocelyn (the owner) was so very helpful and easy to work with that it made the planning delightful. She had Ellie, a young lady from the village, check in with us daily to answer any questions about the Chateau and the area. She did a wonderful job for us. Ellie and Jocelyn assisted us in arranging for daily bakery delivery. Wonderful! We also had their chef, Nicolas, cook for the group on 3 different nights. What meals!! He did such an excellent job and was very reasonably priced. We wanted to take him with us!! :) I think anyone would love this property. Joan Raymond USA
